In this community keynote session we will look at the continuity of Java evolution and the expansion of Java community itself with a focus on Croatia, as well as its innovative future. The global hypes and identified trends will be compared with interests of businesses in Croatia. We will explain how all of this would not be possible without the continuous efforts of the global Java community, which influences the future of Java itself and products relying on it. From the viewpoint of the labor market in Croatia, EU, and globally, we will look into the appropriateness of education, and the knowledge and skills that we acquire relative to expressed requirements. From HUJAK’s perspective we will talk about our plans, experiences, collaborations, conferences and meetups, as well as challenges that we encounter. Finally, we will show how we can participate in the activities of popularization of Java, as well as satisfying needs relating to education, certification, recruitment, and presentation in the international market.

About speaker
Branko Mihaljević, author
Branko Mihaljević is IT educator, consultant, manager, and entrepreneur. After 12 years of work at FER, where he received MSc, DSM, and PhD, and 7 years as a co-owner of Java development company, he is currently lecturer at RIT Croatia and leading his own IT company. He deals with Java since 1996 and with Java EE platform since 2000. He is author of many scientific and professional papers, magazine articles, and educational materials, and he participates in numerous conferences. He gained his work experience as an IT consultant, project manager, development leader, software architect, and researcher on various IT projects in financial, telecom, public health and satellite systems sector. For the last three and half years he is the president of Croatian Java User Association (HUJAK).
Aleksander Radovan, coauthor
Aleksander Radovan, as a graduate computer engineer, is currently completing his PhD at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. He has more than 11 years of experience with Java and he is currently employed as Java Team Lead at KING ICT, as well as working as Senior Lecturer at several university colleges on a number of programming courses related to Java and related technologies. He is author of a number of teaching materials, curricula courses related to programming in Java, as well as conference papers. Currently, he is also the president of the Committee for Education of Croatian Java User Association (HUJAK).
